Ethnic Nationalities Conference
February 12 – 16, 2011
Statement

1. Fifty one out of the fifty six delegates invited from the CNF, KNPP, NUPA, PNLO, WNO, LDU, KNU, PSLF, KIO, NMSP, KNO, ALD, UNLD-LA, KNLP and SSPP attended the Ethnic Nationalities Conference, which was held for five days, from February 12 to 16, and keenly discussed for greater unified action of the ethnic nationality forces, in the future.

2. The Conference was able to organize for the emergence of an umbrella organization representing the ethnic nationalities and formed successfully the ‘United Nationalities Federal Council (Union of Burma). Having the same aim as the ‘Committee for Emergence of Federal Union’, which was formed in the previous year and which had constantly striven for unity of the ethnic nationalities, the organization will continue to work for the establishment of a genuine federal union.

3. The basic principles and policies of the United Nationalities Federal Council (Union of Burma), UNFC-UB, are as follows.

(a) To strive for the resolution of political problems by political means;
(b) To endeavor for gaining more legitimacy and recognition for the just resistance struggle of the ethnic nationalities;
(c) To struggle for gaining fully rights to national equality and self-determination, which are the lawful rights of the ethnic nationalities;
(d) To strive for the emergence of a genuine federal union;

4. For endeavoring on the basis of sincerity to bring about conditions for peaceful co-existence within the Union, we, the ethnic nationalities, hereby declare the formation of the United Nationalities Federal Council (Union of Burma).
