KNU Delegations Departs for the Third Round Negotiation of Ceasefire with the Burmese Government

A delegation of the KNU, led by General Secretary Zippora Sein, departs on September 1, 2012 to meet the Burmese Government for the third round negotiations to implement the ceasefire agreement reached between the two parties earlier this year.

The meeting will be held in Pa’an, Karen State, from September 3 to 4, 2012, and the negotiations will focus on guarantee of safety for civilian and the building of trust progressively at every level of negotiations. The following items will be principally discussed:

(1) The relocation of the Burma Army troops systematically from Karen State and areas populated by Karen people; and
(2) The ceasefire Code of Conduct.

The spokespersons will answer any questions from the media and the public.
